The Feminist Institute
Brand
History is often recorded from a male and white perspective, leaving out crucial stories from gender-marginalized individuals. The Feminist Institute was founded in 2016 by Kathleen Landy to preserve and digitize feminist primary source materials and fix gender gaps in historical archives.
Inspired by protest posters, the identity uses bold black bars and condensed type, with the wordmark’s rules forming an equals sign, a direct expression of equality and equal access to information.
The system extends across stationery, a teaser site, and Identify, Digitize, Store, a zine helping partner organizations digitize their own archives.
